Patty Arnold

Starting with photographs of language in the streets, black and white traditional darkroom prints are hand-painted and collaged to further explore the language and meaning of the words and context. Many of these images were taken around the Mabuhay Gardens in San Francisco in the early 1980's and the handbills reflected early punk and new wave bands along with the culture of the time. The Mabuhay Gardens served as a music venue from 1976-1988.
